Waterside Bonnie Doon is just 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne, 39km from Yea and 22km from Mansfield, on the shores of Lake Eildon.
It is an easy to get to escape for people who aim to Go Make Some Memories and we did.
So the three-day second annual Bonnie Doon Music and Buskers Festival 2015 was a great excuse for us to check out the serenity at this lovely lakeside town.
Bonnie Doon has a general store, petrol station which also caters to boating needs, the Bonnie Bar and the Bonnie Doon Hotel, together with two caravan parks.
We set up our camper trailer on Friday afternoon at the Bonnie Doon Caravan Park, which is right on the waters edge, and close to the football ground where the Music Festival was held. The park has excellent facilities for families, including a swimming pool with toddlers pool, jumping pillow, playground and large well equipped camp kitchen with barbecue hut next door. There is also an on-site kiosk/cafe with shaded veranda. The kiosk stocks basic groceries, ice creams, drinks and there is take away food available as well.
Bonnie Doon Caravan Park is a haven for water lovers. Families enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing and a variety of smaller watercraft for the kiddies on Lake Eildon. The water was a great relief and escape from the high heat and humidity of the weekend.
The Bonnie Doon Music and Busker Festival was well attended despite the heat, with a large number of performers on various stages around the ground. Sessions were also held on Saturday at the Bonnie Bar, which was a lovely relief in air conditioned comfort. The Bar offers light meals such as Pizza, hamburgers, salads etc. The Bonnie Doon Hotel across the bridge was another session venue from 3pm until 10.45 on Saturday.
There were line dancing and ukulele workshops, open mic sessions and huge lineup of performers including Brothers 3, Bowen and Clare, Tony J King, Rattlincane, Ross Hannaford, Martin Jones, Rumshack, Long and the Short of It, Taliska, John-Luke Shelley and High Speed Steel and many more.
It was a wonderful weekend enjoyed by all.
